Art Human & AI

AHA! is a research project, which explores the divide between human intelligence and AI through art. We aim to leverage art, which is bounded by not reality but the human mind, to obtain an insight into the ability of humans to generalize their knowledge to wildly diverse perspectives and robustly capture a common essence in those.

We do so to address some of the biggest questions in contemporary AI research. Current AI models based on deep learning often do not generalize well outside their training data. Furthermore, they are vulnerable to adversarial attacks, non-essential changes in the data that aim to change their decision on a given input. By challenging existing methods with artistic images that creatively break the rules of reality without losing the essence, we can move toward new developments that lead to better AI models.

Take part in this research through our exhibitions and contribute your one of a kind perspective. Explore what different implications AI has on your life and society as a whole.

What is essence?

In What is Essence? visitors are invited to consider the very essence of seeing and express their own unique perspective of the world. Using a diverse range of AI-generated ‘artistic’ depictions of natural objects, the exhibit pushes the limits of current AI capabilities, exposing the ever-closing gap between human intelligence and AI and examining the nature of our own perceptive abilities.

Perspective spaces

What are the boundaries of the human mind and, more importantly, where can we seek and find those boundaries? Answering these questions can help us solve the key problems in modern AI (like generalisation and robustness to noise) that are surprisingly difficult for AI models but trivial for humans. Can we find the answer from art, the only source of data that captures the unique ways in which we humans see reality and beyond?
